I Want to Tell You About My Vision Board!

vision-board

I am currently taking Liv Lane’s Project Light Year e-course ~ a whole year dedicated to living with purpose, intention, compassion, joy, Spirit, and light. Our first assignment was to create a Vision Board {that’s mine at the top of this post!} Rather than write about my vision board, I’m sharing it with you today in my first-ever VLOG!

Be kind… this is my first time using iMovie and there are some rough transitions. And sharing my vision board — my personal goals and dreams and hopes and intentions — feels a bit like baring my soul!

{That said, here’s a fun game: Bonus points to the viewer who can identify the word that most reveals my Min-ne-SOH-ta accent. It’s in there ~ you betcha! :) }

If you think you’d be interested in the class, there’s still time to sign up for a full year of abundant and intentional living… you can learn more here. {This is my affiliate link.}

{And did you notice the new graphics for my site? New picture, new tagline, but same me… mindful, joyful, and thought-full!}

Today’s post is part of the Finish the Sentence Friday linkup. This week’s prompt is “My best dream ever was… OR I want to tell you…” And we were encouraged to do a VLOG! Click the image below to read more or link up!

  1. Wonderful first Vlog and I truly loved getting to see and hear you for the first time here tonight and will tell you that I think your vision board is wonderful and truly just perfect for you, as I have gotten to know you here on FTSF. I love that everything does blend perfectly and seamlessly together on your board, too!! :)

  2. Was it post? Was the word post??? You know that you’re asking for trouble having people say what word shows off your accent :-)
    We have a vision board too. I think it’s a great tool to help you stay on track. It’s really easy to forget why you’re doing things on bad days, if you don’t have a visual reminder. Thanks for sharing yours!

      Yes! You win! I couldn’t believe it when I watched the video, I sound like I’m from “Fargo”! :)

  3. I love your vision board!! Especially that you added sparkly jewels. And yeah I hear about your self-care. I love your first vlog, and your view about life. But um. Also? Sorry if you think that there is ONE WORD shows your Min-ne-SOH-ta accent?? HA – your whole adorable self and voice is Min-ne-SOH-ta!!!

  4. Loved your vblog and the vision board was sure a delight cause of the categories and the sparkly jewel

    Wishing you luck in achieving your goals

  5. Sarah I loved hearing your voice <3

  7. Although I grew up in Ohio and lived in Michigan for a few years, I’ve been told by many people that I have a Minnesota accent sometimes. I hear it every once in a while, and I have no idea where it comes from! (Btw, “post” was the most indicative, but I heard MN in a few words ;) )

    I think the vision board is a great idea. It would be a helpful tool for an ADD girl like me … a visual reminder of what I want to achieve because so often I feel like I end up just winging it and bouncing around.

    Loved hearing and seeing you!

      Thanks – I also enjoy finally “meeting” bloggers in their videos. And yes, it was “post” – I hope that’s not how I usually say it!

  8. So Susan Michael Barrett of Wonderments came and commented on blog, and she mentioned YOU on her blog so here I am. Glad I found this! I just got a new job as the tech person in my school. My school district is Westonka. Sound familiar? Maybe, maybe not… I live in Mound, MN! So I am a fellow education person and blogger of all things Taoist. (Not quite Buddhist, but close!) So glad I found you. I will definitely be putting your blog on my bloglovin!

  9. I LOVE your vision board babe…so creative, beautiful, and empowering. I couldn’t identify your “Minnesota” accent, but I also kept the video low as I am at work…shhh…don’t tell anyone, LOL

  10. Is it weird that I got a little teary when I started watching you speak? I had never heard your voice before, and it made me so happy. And, yes, even though of course I knew you were from Minnesota, it makes me love you even more to hear your accent! More vlogs please!

      Thanks, Jessica — I would love to see you vlog someday too! It’s so fun, it feels like you’re meeting people!

  11. I don’t have a great ear, so I could not identify your accent. I even went back to hear you say “post” again – now I hear it, but it’s not super strong. Anyway – that is not the point of your vlog, I know. I love your vision board – it reminds me of collages we made in college – cutting out the things we loved and pinning it on the wall. I suppose it’s the same concept taken to the next level. So great to see you and hear your lovely voice, Sarah!

  13. Love the vlog and the board!! I’m lucky to have met you IRL before, but I still love seeing and hearing my bloggy friends. And, I agree with Kristi, I think the whole thing sounded Minnesota-ish, but I’m guessing the word you were thinking of was “Post.” :-)

  14. I have always wanted to make a vision board! I should stop making excuses and just sit down and do it. :)
    And I really like yours.

  15. YES! So great, Sarah. Love that you said, “I don’t think we ever really find balance…we just DANCE our way around it.” :) xo

    • Sarah Rudell Beach says:

      Thanks, Liv, and thanks for making such a great tutorial that inspired me to make my own. And yes, I’ve decided that “balance” just doesn’t really exist… we’re always in motion.

  16. I want a vision board! I have a bulletin board with some of my “inspiring” writing and book stuff pinned there, but now I want to broaden it a bit! It’s right above my desk, so I look at it constantly when I am at the computer! This made me miss you tons! And was it “today,” “care,” “ago” or “post”? ;) xoxo

  17. OHMIGOSH I loved this and ‘meeting’ you and hearing your voice. It was a really well done vlog (and wow – you managed to edit – I have NO idea how to edit and that totally put me off, in addition to having nothing to say).

    It was interesting to hear about your board. It’s a cool idea. BUT these things made me laugh and really REALLY made the vlog for me

    “I know it’s backwards and there’s probably a way to make it not be backwards, but this is my first vlog, so it is what it is.” *grinned huge*

    “Coffee…healthy eating…discipline…meditation…OOH AND SPARKLY PRETTY BITS” *eyes shining, giggling*

  19. Sarah…it was so great to see you and hear you! I didn’t vlog today simply due to lack of time these past couple of days but I’m so glad you did. The word was “post”…let me just get that out of the way! Lol! I love the idea of a vision board and hope you consider it a compliment and not total thievery that I plan to do one of my own.
    I think the best part of this whole blog was the moment you said that balance was intentionally left off of your board because “we never really find balance..we just dance around it.” Thank you, thank you, thank you. Validation!
    Loved it through and through!

      Thanks, Sandy! Yes, balance is often too hard to strive for… we just need to dance! And I don’t consider it thievery at all … I think it’s so empowering to create vision boards so go ahead and do one!

  20. I love your vision board, Sarah. I did a board like this a number of years ago before I had kids. I’m not sure what I did with it, but it wasn’t nearly as pretty as yours. I can see how seeing those things often help you to envision yourself in those situations. Very cool.

      Thanks, Kate. This is my first one I’ve done (besides the junior high ones) so it was super fun to do!

  21. I went to a motivational speaker that told us about the “vision board”. Ever since that day I have had a vision to have a vision board. I have yet to create one because most of my visions are completely unrealistic like being a famous juggler or flying to work with a jet pack but one day I will make one. I love this idea and I’m jealous that you have one :)

  22. I love your vision board, Sarah. That was my next step during the beginning of the year planning and I haven’t even started it yet. Your vblog was wonderful, too. You spoke so sincerely and seem like a person I really want to get to know. Nice job!!

  24. Sarah! So great to SEE you! Your smile is even more beautiful than in pictures. You really light up when you smile!

  25. It IS really pretty! I am inspired by you. I had a vision board at one point but it didn’t work for me, but having listened to you I feel like I have a better grasp of how to approach this correctly.

    I’ve recently finished reading “The Power” the sequel to The Secret, as I’m sure you know. I haven’t read the latter and didn’t realize that vision boards were a concept introduced in that book. I believe in the law of attraction and I love the Huffington Post example you gave in your vlog. About a week ago I was reading a history book to Ben and we were reading a chapter about the cavemen. The author is actually an art historian, Ernest Gombrich, so there’s a lot of art references, which really appeals to me. In this particular chapter he mentioned the cave wall paintings, such as the ones in Lascaux, featuring animals. He said we didn’t know exactly why the prehistoric men depicted animals but that it was probably a form of magic, trying to summon these animals into their reality for hunting purposes. I immediately thought of the power of attraction. I suppose these may have been the first vision boards… Thanks for yet another thought provoking post. :-)

  26. I have a vision board too! I was in a book club for awhile and one of the books we read was The Secret. While I didn’t love the book, or completely subscribe to it’s theories, I do love my board. And I’ve actually been thinking about sharing it on my blog…..

    Good luck with your course!
