by Lama Surya Das ~ you are a living Buddha!  Great introduction to Buddhism, and how to discover your Buddha-nature and live with the heart of a Buddha.

Peace is Every Step by Thich Nhat Hanh ~ simple but profound wisdom, short chapters for daily inspiration or meditation.

Mindfulness: An Eight-Week Plan for Finding Peace in a Frantic World by Mark Williams and Danny Penman ~ great for left-brain Buddhas!  Broken down into 8 weeks, Williams and Penman combine research, insights, and step-by-step guided meditations and exercises for you to begin a mindfulness and meditation practice.

Buddhism for Mothers by Sarah Napthali ~ truly changed my perspectives on parenting and helped make me a better mother! I come back to this book All. The. Time.

Mindful Teaching and Teaching Mindfulness  by Deborah Schoeberlein with Suki Sheth~ introduction to mindfulness, with advice tailored to teachers, and how we can teach mindfulness strategies to students.

Mommy Mantras  by Bethany Casarjian ~ love love love this book!  Short mantras with explanations for how to apply them as we face the challenges of mothering.  I think all mothers should have this book!

Planting Seeds: Practicing Mindfulness with Children by Thich Nhat Hanh and the Plum Village Community ~ great introduction to mindfulness, and tons of activities and strategies for teaching mindfulness to children.  You can read about how I have used this book with my own children here.

The Way of Mindful Education by Daniel Rechtschaffen — a great intro to mindfulness, plus tips for creating a mindful classroom and teaching mindfulness to students.

The Mind-Up Curriculum by Scholastic

Mindful Monkey, Happy Panda by Lauren Alderfer ~ beautiful illustrations and a short tale to teach kids about bringing mindful attention to what they do {with a monkey to demonstrate the monkey-mind!}

Peaceful Piggy Meditation by Kerry Lee MacLean ~ great illustrations and easy-to-follow directions to teach little kids to meditate and concentrate on the breath.  Great for teaching kids about why meditation can help them.

Peaceful Piggy Yoga by Kerry Lee MacLean ~ easy instructions and great pictures of various poses, and why they can help kids if they do them (e.g., Warrior pose: “This pose makes your legs strong!”)
