Breathe + Smile: A Mindful Moment for your Monday

Left Brain Buddha is reclaiming Mondays!  Not manic, but mindful.  Each Monday I share a short passage or mantra for a moment with the breath.  I share highlights from my Smile File for the week ~ and I hope you’ll take time to reflect on your smiles from the past week.  Breathe, smile, and move into your Monday with mindfulness.

Words for a Mindful Moment with the Breath

From Your True Home by Thich Nhat Hanh:

Life with all its wonders is accessible right now.  So we train in coming back to the present moment. At that moment, you touch life deeply….

It is in the present moment that life, peace, joy, happiness, and well-being are possible….

With mindful breathing, we come to recognize our body as our home. We might say:

Breathing in, I am aware of my body. Breathing out, I smile to my whole body.

I love the little notes my daughter leaves for me around the house ~ this one is currently my bookmark:

One of my goals {I don’t like calling them resolutions} for this year is to have family movie nights and game nights. We had game night last night and had a blast ~ even though my three-year-old didn’t quite get the concept of Hedbanz! But lots of fun {and concentration}. 🙂

I’m one of those mothers who shies away from messy play {shocking, I’m sure!}.  But this weekend I embraced it, and we painted. with glitter. and glue. and then we finger painted! The kids had a blast, and I loved the Memorial Day art my daughter created:

I was even okay with the mess!

But the most touching moment was listening to my children’s conversation about Memorial Day as they painted. “Do we still need to be nice to people if there’s a war?” my three-year-old asked his sister (age 6). “Yes, we have to love our whole country,” she told him.

“If I go to war I’ll punch the bad guys in the stomach,” he replied. {My heart sinks… my three-year-old already pondering war???}

“No!” big sister responded. “We should even love the bad guys.” {My heart rises…}

Have you started a Smile File yet?  What made you smile last week?  I’d love to hear from you!

Have a great week!
